Really?

Work completely sabotages me. At one point this month I had lost about 5 to 6 lbs. Looking at my progress from day one to today, I have lost only 4 lbs. Which means that work is a terrible thing for losing weight! I have a good job. It is secure and pays the bills while Adam is in school. The problem is that I sit at a computer all day "photoshoping" docs to make them readable for use. It's not bad unless you do it everyday for 8+ hours. What do we do to stay awake?... EAT! I really am trying to take healthy things or at least less unhealthy things, but apparently I need to try harder.
Anyone have any suggestions for healthy and filling snacks? I can only eat carrots so many days in a row before I'm buying the salty chips out of the vending machine. I drink water all day, so I'm good on that. But between 7 and 12:30 is a killer for me. Between getting up at 5 and then staring at a computer, it's a huge struggle to stay awake. And I can only walk around so many times before my boss starts getting on my case.

  1. Hey lady!!
I also sit at a computer all day and it stinks! I actually got a large exercise ball and I have been using it on and off for a week now. It's a lot harder than you think! I haven't seen any physical changes yet but I'm hoping it helps me tone up a little bit. I definitely feel it when I go home!
I have been trying the Kellogs Special K challenge to lose up to 6 pounds in two week... I lost 2.5 last week but then I started drinking Mountain Dew again and well haven't lost anything this week. Their protein shakes are actually good, I add raspberries or a banana to them and have it for breakfast. Their protein bars are also good for lunch. Believe it or not they actually do hold you over. I do find myself going after a snack in the afternoon but eating less and more frequently is better for your metabolism. And they actually taste good.
They have a lot of applications and web programs where you can keep track of the calories you are eating. Just being aware and seeing how many calories you have left for the day helps me make better choices. If I go over that number then I know I haven't accomplished my goal that day.
I also just got a pedometer. The goal for everyone is 10,000 steps a day. I only made it to 5,000 the last two days but it makes me want to walk around and see if I can get my steps up. It makes a game out of it.

Hopefully some of this helps. It's always a struggle. =) Miss you!

  2. Get healthier versions of the stuff you love. If it is sweet or salty go with 100 calorie packs but remember if you eat the whole box it adds up to six hundred calories. Also any fresh fruit or veggies are great snack...high in vitamins and low in calories. But you need to be careful of what you dip them I'm ranch and other creamy dressings are very high in calories. Cheese sticks and nuts are also great. Just watch your portions and measure them out before you go so that you don't consume too much. Keep up the good work and never stop believing in yourself. I have an app on my phone (free) called my fitness pal...I love it it helps me control what I am putting in my body. The fitness ball idea ubove...is great for desk jobs it works on toning and posture...and if you are toning your muscles it helps rev up your metabolism. Good luck!

  3. Can you see a nutritionist who can help you set little goals? Knowing what you are attempting, if you start with drastic changes (too much too soon), you are going to crash and burn. What you are trying to do is change habits, maybe too many at once. The good thing is you are becoming aware of your eating "habits" and triggers. That is the first BIG step.
The second would be one little change for a few weeks until you reset that habit (like switching from soda to water), before moving on to another one.
But if you beat yourself up for failing, I would be money you would head for the food to make yourself feel better. So don't give up on yourself and forget the "within a year: thing" make it a goal to break the eating patterns at a reasonable but do-able pace for the rest of your life.

One big thing a nutritionist taught me is, "stop eating in front of the TV" (even snacks), cause eventually, the TV drags you in and you don't even realize how much you are eating, or that you are even doing it. You just keep moving your arm up to your mouth. Make sense? Hard to do, but very rewarding AND will wake you up to how connected the act of TV watching is to the act of eating!

  4. Finally found your new blog! love it! I totally understand the need to eat to stay awake at work. And sadly I have no real suggestions. Popcorn? it's really low cal and can be eaten for awhile? But good for you for already losing weight! I am very impressed! You rock! Keep it up!
